i picked up a 94 trek 830 the other day and its a tidy old bike bar the wheels were finished so i have popped a set of alex rims on it but the rear hub is for a 8 speed cassette :? i spotted on evilbay some people selling a spacer to convert 8 speed hubs to take a 7 speed cassette. just wondering if anyone has used one and are they ok ???

cheers for the offer just got a text off a mate with a freebie one for me  do you just put them on before fitting the cassette on

Sure do ,just slide it [said spacer]on first ,then the cassette then the lockring

Simples :D

Make sure the cassette isn't pushed too far over though, you will need sufficient thread for the locking not to shred the threads.....
