Carlton "Ten"... coming together slowly

Keith

I worked in a Raleigh 5* Dealer in the 70's and had to PDI the bikes......Carlton were always screwed together better than Raleigh, the wheels were generally round and the frames didn't need much touching up and extra decals fitting over the scrapes.

Quality control in the 70's were non existant especially on the Grifter :)

We used to sell cheap and cheerful bikes (Steyer-Daimler-Puch and Peugeot) and they *were* made out of gas pipes LOL

I'm trying to remember the name of the equivalent painted frame similar to the all chrome Cobra....

No probs Mike, understand where you're coming from.. ;)

Wouldn't have any spare "C" nuts would you? Missing two, and the other three have suffered gravely in storage?

I may have a couple, is it for a front or rear axle. Defo don't have any seat bolt ones.

The rear axle has has lost both "C"'s and both front and rear have suffered in storage from water damage

Cheers..

Hi all,

I think i might have a positive ID on this. What was purplexing was the mix of three things 1) the additional guide lug at the front of the top tube, for the rear brake cable, but not having an extra one further back, 2) lack of chrome on the forks, and 3) rear brake cable using a hanger from the seat clamp, not using a built in bridge on the frame.

In the Bike Bros blog there is a 1971 "Ten" listed and pictured which has all these things, and has the same stem as mine. The bike in these pics also has a serial No. that is close to mine.

Though by 1973 the frame has gone over to using a bridge for the rear brake cable.

Scroll down for the picture.

This one even has the same levers and front mech as mine

I am afraid to say that the colour scheme is not really to my taste, so controversially it will be painted Lagoon Blue

Still, any further thoughts are welcomed...

TTFN,

Dave
