"Carlton Cyclone" RK, your wisdom please :-)

new saddle/drops/service (aka bits box special), then wack on gumtree for studenty/vintage types.

Please don't ever compare a Carlton to an Allegro, the Carlton is much better designed. :)

Well actually I disagree, the Allegro was designed by a very talented Enlgishman called Harris(on)Mann: unfortunately the car was not built exactly to his design.

But designed it was.

I respect the top end Carltons* (I have two), but not the bottom end grey porridge. I know a few ex-Carlton employees so I'm speaking from their experience as well as my own.

Roadking.

*531 throughout of course.

No idea what grey porridge is, probably in the same vein as gas pipe - a term I utterly despise. Thanks for your input.

Look forward to seeing more pics of the Cyclone!

I know this is a old post, but a friend of mine has being offered a Carlton. He has'nt seen it yet, and the chap who is selling it does'nt know the model, i've told him to look for the reynolds 531 sticker, and adviced him on better components.
What is the Carlton hierarchy, number 1, model professional ?
number 2, Flyer ?
number 3 Corsair ?
etc etc etc.
I never owned one, so i'm guessing a bit.

Mike...

Carltons were never numbered as you suggest. Any link to the sale ?

They covered such a wide spread of bikes from custom frames to mass produced it's hard to help.

Sorry my post most proberly did'nt make sense, what i meant to say was the professional model, always the top model, second top model a Flyer, 3rd top model corsair, etc etc etc or is not that simple.

No link, mate's possibly buying off a guy at his work.

Mike....

Carlton produced many models over the years, some hand built and a lot semi or full on massed produced. Working out some form of Hierarchy would be a challenge!

Generally stuff like the Jewel, Flyer and International etc, to name a few were top end stuff, as well as quite a few others. A picture would save a lot of speculation. The Corsair, a much later model was near the lower mass produced end, perfectly good cycle though.

Can you put up a picture of the bike?
