Carlton Corinthian, c1955

This was a machine I purchased form Ebay last month, I picked it up from Eroica Britannia as a good friend of mine picked this up from Huddersfield. The machine dates from c1955 and is on an E prefix frame number. This will be a long term restoration project. Im hoping to replace some of the components, but intend to keep a few! I like the double chainset but things like the saddle and rear mech will go. I thinking of getting the frame resprayed professionally in the same colour with new decals. The front forks will need to be refinished too. The frame is 531 tubing (not sure of the forks) and uses Nervex lugs and Cyclo drop outs. Im hoping to have it ready maybe for Eroica next year. The cycle, though it looks rough, is quite rideable. Apologies for the large number of images, but this is how the machine looks at the moment, I probably won't start any work on it until later in the year. The bike has a very good original Carradice bag as well as super plastic guards. I think it was upgraded to 10-speed in the 80s. Brakes are Weinmann 730s with rather fetching anodised red hooded levers.

Looking forward to following the restoration , please keep us updated when work starts, no need to apologise about the images IMHO you can never have to many images of a Carlton

If you ever apologise for posting pictures again, I'll report you to the moderator :D

Looks good. Nice to see another 50s ride.

Re:

Managed to get some time to finally start stripping this old thing down. Seat tube stuck, forks stuck, one crank stuck... this is going to be fun! Anyway after an hour or so and some crisp language, the bike is finally starting to co-operate. Wheels are shot so they will go, may keep the hubs. Seat is crap and will go. Im going to install new wheels, new gear mechs and levers as well as the usual sundries... Im thinking of a professional spray job on the frame to the same colour and finish. Anyway, Im going in again today for another crack at them hard to removes bits. Wish me luck.

Re:

Wishing you good luck with that crank.

I'd also have seriously considered repaintjng in original Colorado. The paint is a bit shot in too many points for my taste

Don't bin the hubs! I'll happily re-house the round holed one if it needs a new home! Don't recognise the slotted rear one, it's a bit later.

Yes, Ive been told to hang onto them. The front one is Racelite, the rear is Shimano...
