I just wind up throwing a Thomson Elite 410 in everything. Nine time out of ten they are so subtle you don't know they are there. Stronger than most if not all retro posts. Available new and unbattered. Holds up my big butt. Available in 410 length to help the retro frames deal with my size when post is at full extension for my height. Silver or Black. I have six of them and they are awesome. Problem solved.

Got to be my favourite too: durable enough, light enough, beautifully made, beautifully finished, works flawlessly, never slips.
Adapted from the Suntour Superbe post, it was simply the best way back in 1985 when it was introduced, and still is (IMHO )

is that for real? with that much layback, surely you must wheelie at even the smallest incline?

but back on topic, I don't like posts with clunky saddle clamps or those that look like they have been glued on; posts with infinite adjustment instead of serated teeth get the thumbs up, like these:

wadya mean "back on topic?" its date stamped 84- you cant get a much more retro seatpost! and no I dont ride with it in its present position. other than that I really like my marin one but its 27.0 so dont fit nowt. (edit i wish it was 27.2 which would be more usable to me right now).

I recently bought an NC-17 post from CRC. Excellent for the money in terms of weight and quantity. And 450mm long for the true devotees of skyhigh saddles. And nicely for a modern post not plastered in logos.

when i was after a layback post in 27.2mm recently i almost bought the thomson...quality and decent price.

instead i blew £278 on a Moots cinch layback :shock:

its a work of art and the simple single bolt to adjust is a dream. i still think its a bit overpriced but all mooots stuff i have bought is crazy money.
