There is no other meaning or understanding for the term "NOS". No word-smith double-speak for sale advertisement will change that fact. "New Old Stock" and "New Original Stock" is self evident. The age of the item is irrelevant. The way the item came from the original manufactuer is highly relevant: the item must have the original box, tags and manuals as applicable.
Selling an unused part without box and manuals? The part is unused without box and manuals.
Never used the part and it has a few scuff marks from kicking around your shed for 30 years? The item is unused but "blah blah blah".
Took the part out of the box when it was NOS to install it to take pictures to sell it? Lightly used/installed once or VGC (Very Good Condition) with a brief description.
I think for the very most part people are pretty honest here. All you need to do is look at the photos provided + the description to determine whether the claim is accurate. eBay is a whole different animal and sellers are very dishonest. For example there is a seller or two in the US who are clearly selling reproduction Ultimate Machine parts (for a premium) and advertised as NOS, but have zero mention in the descriptions of the original packaging or photos in the original packaging.
