Can retro MTBs still be ridden hard?

In the market for a retro MTB (Orange Clockwork etc). Can these (say 90’s bikes) still be ridden hard off road? Don’t want it to be a garage queen!

Just dont expect the same ride as a very new bicycle - they are so very very different

I have a Kona Explosif, a Roberts White Spider and a Rockhopper and a new-ish Giant. The old and new are like chalk and cheese, it depends what mood I am in.

Retro are (in my opinion) usually more fun, I have to be more alert, takes more out of me, I get home feeling a bit battered but with a massive smile on my face.

Steel with a little care and protection will last a lifetime.

This is Retrobike after all
