Can I run a 10 speed xtr mech with 9 speed xtr shifters?

The shifter pulls at 1:1, the mech will be expecting a pull of 1:2. The shifter will simply pull too much cable no matter where you clamp the XTR mech. It will always miss-shift somewhere.
