Can I fit V-brakes to my 1993 Saracen?

Err, visually I can see that your canti set up is a bit off. Raise the straddle wire on the rear up a bit - you'll need to move the pads away from the rim a bit to do this. Also, there should be a bit of cable outer on the right side side at the rear between the straddle bit and the canti. Finally (!) the straddle bit on the left at the rear should be connected on the end, not on the cast bit 1/4 of the way along the wire!

Time to tinker!

Listen to the guy who knows what he's doing, NOT to me!

Splatter - what about the front brake?

The front doesn't look too bad, other than the canti's are a little too far splayed out. Ideally, you want on this model for the upright bit of the canti arm to just be fractionally splayed as the pad hits the rim. Move the pads away from the rim and pull some more cable through the top of the canti. Just check that the straddle wire doesn't hit the fork when applied.

No, I've spoken too soon. There just isn't the clearance at the very back of my top-tube to fit one of those thingamajigs. If only the cable routing was rotated 90 degrees (running along the edge of the ring rather than thru it), then I could mount that onto my seat tube really easily. Hmm.
