Campagnolo MTB rims?

I do like the deeper sidewalls on Campag rims though. Always found 231 to be quite shallow, which made setup harder for me, and pads could run off the bottom when worn.

390g I think Ateks are quoted. No eyelets.

Back in the day I ran an Atek up front and a Mavic 231 in the rear.

bent more fronts than rears, but the Atek's were superlight.

Brake set up could also be a pain due to the concave braking surface; which sounded like a good idea but wasn't.

I still run with them up front with XC717 :D but the bike shops always have a laugh at the braking surface angle
Love them.

Does anyone happen to know when the K2 rim was made? Deepish V profile and fairly wide, silver.

no earlier than 1996 if my info is correct...

I used to love Ateks and Stehno's back in the day. The Atek's were super light at 370g odd and the Stehno's a few g more.

They have a very large concave braking surface which is great, but they seem to be surceptable to being easily dented. They are a very stiff rim and seemed tougher that equivalent Mavic's and FIR rims of the era, but if you gave them a good belt they tended to crisp and not true up again as well as a Mavic would. The lack of eyelets did lead to tiny cracks after extended use, but the cracks never propagated to the extent that the rim failed. They are a really good looking rim and polished up exceptionally well.

My rims are lettered 'ALFA XL' and are narrow and shallow hence the potential tyre problem and setting up of brake blocks. No idea of the weight.

I got them (I think) around '92/'93 from Mel Bentley in Leeds as a spare set of wheels, he had them on special offer at the time.

Campag

Sounds as though the Ateks are not for me as i'm looking for something that will last. Think i'll keep an eye out for some Thorrs. Anyone know the weight of them?

You're right. I hadn't thought Campag were still making MTB rims at that point, but the '96 catalogue lists a whole series:

K2
Kilimangiaro
Aconcagua
Everest
Vinson
Elbrus
McKinley
