Hi all,

I have this cougar on its way to me, however in anticipation i'm just wondering if anyone can indentify the groupset at all? Pics aren't that great and I gather some campag of this era looks similar, so not got much hope until it arrives!

Wondering if anyone on here can point me in the right direction :)

Re:

Hi Chainset def looks Athena , Athena was below Chorus but above Victory in the pecking order which I think went C-Record / Croce Dàune / Chorus / Athena / Victory / Triomphe but some units did appear in more than one groupset which 30 odd years later doesnt help Retrobikers ! Love Cougars of that era .

Yes, I too love Cougars of this era (I think this will be my fifth) and in my favourite tubeset as well (653)

Re:

Hi. It may well be Athena. But you should also consider Croce D'une, which was a very similar shape to Athena but is much lighter and has self extracting bolts. The one in the photo looks to have the self extracting bolts, but does seem more weighty so could be either. You will have a better idea once you have it! Good luck, Stuart

Re:

That crank is either Croce D'Aune or a 90s Chorus - the cranks are the same, but the chainring markings are different. If the rings say 52-AS then they're Croce D'Aune, if the big ring has paired markings (e.g. 52/39), then it's the later Chorus. Those self extracting bolts go into left hand threads in the cranks, so you can't put them in the wrong ones. Athena had conventional extractor threads and dust caps.

Re:

Sadly it wasn't £5! it was a 'best offer' auction on ebay (I think the listings default to their original value when ended?)

It should be arriving next week - looking forward to stripping down, cleaning up and working out what to do with it!

Really like the look of the forks and the rest of the frame. Hard to tell but I think it's a 'micro tt' frame. Should be a bit of fun!

I didn't think that could be right when I saw that sale price, so thanks for clearing that up! Looks like it's in decent condition from the photos, is it a proper lo-pro frame with a 650 front or 700 both ends?
