I currently have an overwhelming compulsion to purchase any 1940s frame I come across.
My latest one is a Buckley Brothers. Seller's photographs -

Re:

The chain stays are Triangulated and will post further photographs when it arrives.

From research the Dartmouth Rd address on the head badge was first used from 34' and the Triangulated stays were first introduced in 37'.

Bill Philbrook also had an apprenticeship with this company.

Re:

I have also been in touch with Paul Buckley (VCC enthusiast) and provided him with photos and frame No 25248 and asking whether they could identify the model.

Paul quickly got back in touch with -

I am increasingly certain that the 5-digit post-war numbers have the year as the last two digits so yours would be 1948 and the frame looks right for that.

4 digit prewar numbers are still a mystery. It will probably be happiest with 26" wheels but it could have been built for either size at that time.

I suggest you buy a Cycling Magazine for that year as there are normally a couple in eBay. Build would have been what was available in the period of export quotas.

I see little or no similarity in Buckley frames apart from the Triangular chainstays and the gorgeous head badge.

That looks really nice Dan, a quality looking frame.
Great that it still has it's head badge as I would imagine it would be a hard find these days and also the downtube decals from Lloyds will look mush nicer.
What's the plan for this one frame wise? paint build etc.

HI Jamie,
Thanks very much and yes looks like a very well made frame.
I will check out the condition of the current paint and look at fitting new decals and also may have a go at lug lining.
The build will be late 40s - 50s part's with whatever I can get hold of.

Re:

Hi Dan, quality frame, great buy, I love those chain stays, I think Granby did a squared chain stay for a while. Thanks Terry
