brooks saddle.

Never had a second hand one but have had a conquest (the ATB one with red springs) and now have a B17 select, absolutely love them, some people reckon they need a few hundred miles to break them in but both of mine have been comfortable from ride 1, as already mentioned the secret is to keep using proofhide to soften them.

:D

currently breaking in a new one , and have a "pre-loved one " thats good and getting better
had a perfect one a few years ago , then some bastard stole it

Pre-loved, oiled, arse hmmmm

I should say I'm also doing the stretch and wax method to limber up one I received last year. Hope it works.

How good are they as 'off road' saddles instead or trails/road? Only ever seen them on road bikes .....

They always look like a 'riders' saddle though, remember seeing a full carbon time trial bike with one on, looked crazy but he said it was amazing comfy and let him ride it for any distance everyday

I use a Brooks Professional Titanium saddle. I use it on my Merlin titanium for on and off road.

The weight difference between the steel version and the Ti version is amazing, I think.

I bought it new from a friend a while ago, he has them on most of his bikes too and swears by them.

It was the most comfortable saddle from new I have ever ridden. It gets better each ride.

See here as well.

I have a B17 narrow on my Surly LHT which I commute to work on. I sit on it for more than two hours a day and I love it. Looking at it.. it looks lopsided.. so maybe my arse is that way too

I also used it for a few mtb rides.. which I like better than my WTB that I am using

I bought mine new... I agree that a used that is broken in there would be a good chance that it wouldn't fit.

thanks for all the feedback & opinions.
i am pretty sure when i can afford it i will be buying a new brooks saddle.
but i'm going to stick with this one for the time being, i love the design of the saddle.

I love the brook saddle.
They are amazing on road use.
Not so bad on off road use, but if you have to move on the saddle, things become different : for exemple in climbing, if you have to sit on the front part of the saddle, it's like if you are siting directly on the seatpost.
The Brooks are very confortable but if you sit on the middle and don't move ;)

On other hand, I broke the leather of a Brooks on a very muddy ride. I put a lot specific grease, but the saddle really hate water and mud

i know my arse will never get used to this saddle.
so i am looking to get a new one.
i like the look of the titanium model but its pricey.
i need a recommendation on a new brooks saddle.
many thanks, jeff.

I'd go for one of the B17 models. There are several different versions, standard, copper, narrow, imperial.

I have a B17 narrow imperial and I'm very pleased with it. A Brooks narrow is about the same width or slightly wider than a normal sports saddle.
