Broadband provider recommendations - BT Infinity?

Neil,

Thanks, i think i have an ethernet cable somewhere. But, reading between the lines, it seems that you are saying that any delay could be in the wifi connection as opposed to the signal entering the house.

I will look for a cable in the roofspace.

Well the point of the speedtest is really to tell you the real-life speeds you're getting from your broadband connection.

Inside of your house, WiFi may be a limiting factor, or bottleneck - or may not be. But using a wired connection takes that out of the equation.

If that looks rosey, then you can look into whether your WLAN is performing, but unless you're able to just get BT to do all of that, it's best not to conflate them.

And back to original question. Seems I won't gain anything by changing. In the sticks. Service reliable. Under £20 and acceptable common speed.

If it ain't broke.

There's a lot to be said for that approach and I'd agree with you - if you're happy with your service, why pay more for something you're not going to significantly benefit from? I would say though that being in the sticks is a big part of the reason I'm eagerly awaiting the fibre rollout here - we're a good few miles from the exchange but much closer to the nearest cabinet so we should see a decent boost in speed... I hope!

Mr History,

Hijacking used to be much more popular here as a recreational activity, as this has somewhat died away, I wanted to return it to the fore!!

Apologies in advance.

Apologies again - get your apps going!

Just had an email saying BB going up by £5 a month. I need to find a new deal. The stories of crap connections and poor service on start up are putting me off though.

BT seems the easiest with my existing line rental etc? So back to square one.

Does the BT router allow wired connections too? I have a 50 ft Ethernet running to my study from present router.
