Brian's Bike

All nice and tight with only about fifty miles on it in total. The forks are armchair confit table and a bit bouncy but I quite like it as it suits the more relaxed style of riding required given the brakes.

Looks like you got a better quality mech ;) and boingy forks sound like they will be great for commuting given the state of the roads these days so you should find them very well suited indeed for the intended purpose  ...

Frothy sample?

Sorry I didnt read this sooner and always a shame when a mate goes.

I doubt that even the original brakes had had chance to bed in. I'm bemused by the lots of hooey written about discs. Hydraulic depends on the flexing of the hose, the calipers, the levers etc. I find just about all cable brakes the same as long as the brake lever doesnt flex.

Even the cheap nasty ones work well once bedded in. What doesnt help is when the novice rider sprays all sorts over them, buggering up the pads...

Blackcurrant.

Got some BB7s and XT levers for the next imminent build. Tired of faffing with hydraulics.

Weird how it goes. He was on my landing looking at my books last night. His death troubles me.

It's great to see you've out on the trails again on the Briamondback THM and i can't be bothered with hydraulics either as i found out a while ago that a well set up V brake is more than up to the job ;) .

Well you either imagined seeing him on your landing last night or he really is haunting you  ..

The cable discs are fine. Takes a bit of a pull to control a nasty downhill but more than adequate for me. I don't really do technical.

I like technical but not when it comes to sorting brakes out miles away from home so i prefer my brakes to be easy to work on for that reason and as for mechanical brake discs i've never set them up although i did have had ago of my youngest sons GT many years ago which had a set of mechanical brake discs on which seemed to have fairly good stopping power but they didn't impress me enough to want any but as long as their good enough for your needs then that's all that matters ..
