If you'll only ever do it once then this is the cheapest tool option. Socket version are available but a tad more expensive.

Yes, undo pinch bolts on non drive side and slide the whole axle out.

Have you got any way of measuring the chain, because that inner ring looks very worn to me.

And as you have no replies, I'd slap grease on the whole of that axle that goes through the bb when refitting. Just a small coating

Brand new shimano chain, seems to ride fine in the inner ring

I've got that tool coming so will try to overhaul the BB and see if the creak stops

I'm getting a very slight creak
have had this before and it was the pedals, changed pedals and still there

Also the bike hasn't turned a wheel in ages...had a bike that had been parked up for a while and the creak went away after use

But, can I remove the BB and clean and grease it up?

Creaking can be from it not being preloaded correctly, or worn bearings. I'd regrease, and if persistent replace the bearings and see.

I don't have very extensive experience with them either. I've got 3 bikes with external BB and they all have had issues with creaking which were either fixed by cleaning or adjusting crank preload. Hope you'll get it fixed tomorrow I hate creaking sounds or squeaking sounds
