Campagnolo bottom bracket woes - help needed

If I add spacer, say 2mm, that would perhaps make small chainring clearing the stay by about the same, not enough I think? If a thin walled cup @foz mentioned adds another 2mm or so than this would probably work.

I do have Gran Sport bottom bracket which is again circa 2mm longer, but it has an Italian thread unfortunately. Anyone for swaps?
Freewheel, sturmey archer spacers are available on different thicknesses. ^ that was my next suggestion

What about trying the longer axle from this with the existing cups?
That will be my next port of call, although that would meant using two bottom brackets and the one left over will be practically unusable considering it is for 70mm shell....

Perhaps I sell both and get an appropriate version with longer spindle.....

Yep, freewheel spacer should solve your issue. I've been doing this since my very first Flying Scot, when I was 16! And those were round to round stays, I reckon I was clearing them by about 0.4mm... You'd be amazed at how little it needs to clear to be running well.

Higher end campag BBs had cups with thicker walls and rifling , I think the idea was to keep grease flowing out rather than in, to avoid dirt getting in to the bearings. I can't remember which models had this, and with the amount of mixing and matching that can happen, don't judge the cups just by the spindle marking. Easiest is to remove the spindle and check the cups visually - post a pic if unsure.

The axle projection from the cup looks too short to me.
It might not be a mismatch, but I'd be unhappy at that.

I have looked at and fitted a lot of bottom brackets over the years, although cup and cone are a lot rarer now than in the 20th century.

Thanks to all who answered - a 2.5mm spacer I found in the parts box solved the issue, I reckon it is 0.5mm wider than needed, but I can live with it - chain line seems to be fine - and can always replace with thinner one down the line.

One problem solved, now let's see how rest of the build goes on. 😀
