BotM February 2020 nominations - Blue Collar Special

The thing is, this competition has always had plenty of special hand builds mixed in with high end rare expensive stuff.... I was under the impression that Adrian was attempting to not necessarily lower the bar regarding quality but more on cost so that the competition was possibly open to more members. I’m guessing the use of ‘Blue Collar’ was an attempt to give the theme a better title than ‘bottom of the range shop bought gas pipes’

I guess Adrian will sort it, but personally I think all the handbuilt one offs should either enter a normal month or wait for a ‘one off handbuilt’ theme month.

After all the nonsense so far I’m not playing any more. Withdrawing my entry. This risks descending into farce.

My thought was that the theme was a bit different from the “no flagship gruppos” (dec 1:cool: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=392323

Cost wise this was a cheap bike back in the days. Probably still not that costly today either.

As low rent as you think it maybe, it really might be when compared to others you have, but to pay a compliment, the fact you own it, answers its own question really.

It DONT FIT.

to some up, enjoy a retro vibe....

And if you pull that baby nonsense, that will mean your bike ruined my retinas for nothing, and so far that had my vote...

Already done. My ocd won’t allow me not to question inconsistencies. As you well know. With nothing invested I have no axe.

And thanks for your encouragement. When the girls are finished.............

My Pioneers that is. No offence.

Re:

Ok, I guess I need to take some responsibility here for perhaps not being clear in the remit; my opening post was already questioning it! In my defence I did try and give some examples of what I considered to be in/out.

It reads to me more like, Townsend to Trek and everything in between, nothing from small handbuilding frame shops, or the Elite Specials Created by the Big Bike Brands, just regular off the peg bikes that would have sat on shop floors, waiting for the new mountain bike crazed enthusiast to come in and buy.......?

^ This is pretty close to what I was envisaging. I think most of the current entries qualify......note I said 'most' and I hate to do this to you again Bjornar, and I do see where you're coming from, but I think your entry doesn't quite fit the bill. Probably more down to the vague remit than anything else. Hopefully that's cleared things up a bit? I think I'll add Carl's quote to the original post. I'm always conscious to try and keep things interesting by throwing in 3 or 4 special months each year but I sometimes fall short in coming up with ideas.

Re:

Debate of the month is going strong again I see.

Could we have a special BoTM for the hard of fookin understanding next time please?
