Boing! 1990 Cannondale SE2000

I can't remember - were these a mid-1990 release? I can't remember then being in the catalogue until 1990, by which time the spec had slightly altered
It looks to be that way. Mine is stamped 0990, so September 1990 for this one. 19 inch frame. There is one online which is dated from August the same year, but I have not come across anything earlier than that on the web so far.

They do not seem to have made an appearance in the 1990 Catalogue either. They show up in the 1991 catalogue but they have some more goodies added to the spec by this time (Logic crankset, Ringle seat binder for example).

I'm enjoying the detective work :D

Your bike i a 91 but production of the SE started in 1990 but were 1991 catalog. First EST frame I have see in shops in France was hanged in december 90.
some earlier bikes were built for magazine or catalog shooting without all 91 specification
for exemple, the first DeltaV 1000 withe headshock was shown in june/july 1991

here’s the test of the IEX pre production bike :

I like these, I can remember drooling over the one they had in Evans Wandsworth branch. I still keep an eye out for them as would like to own one some day.

@24pouces this is all fantastic, thanks!

Having looked through this would it be right to say this is a 1EX model? It pretty much shares the same spec as that test bike in the City and Mountain Biking article.

Good news is I have also have sourced the correct Flexstem! I chanced upon contacting the chap who I sold my old one on to and he still has it :D

I just need to work out a deal or swap with him...

They are certainly super interesting, being one of the first full suspension attempts and all that.

I wonder if mine could be the same as the one you saw in Wandsworth all those years ago? I can't imagine too many made their way over here?

I have checked the serial number of mines :
51710907750 for my SE 2000 (bought as frameset in december 91) and 51704916318 for the SE Omega.
So, my SE 2000 was welded in october 90 but in the market in 91

swingarms got both same serial number B1-0301. But they were 2 generation of swingarm : with or without bridge between chainstays which add stiff.

Really interesting read as it's clearing up a lot of questions about mine, especially the steel flexstem and bridgeless stays which mine has, but with early xt, sg rings, wide cantis. That's an absolute steal I think for yours.

@24pouces I had no idea the swingarm had a serial number as well. I will check mine out when I have a moment.

@lukewheels Glad to have you in the party! I am super pleased to have one of these machines to work on 👍

In the meantime here is the flexstem that I sold off with a bike and an hoping to reunite with soon. I am just waiting for the current owner to find the bolts that he took off to refurb. I knew it was a bit rough so I might have a crack at repainting, or pirating another stem shaft from another :)
