Bio pace in 1990?

I've got my hands on a nice 1990 Muddy Fox Courier Prestige frame.

I'm going to build it up with a Period shimano Groupset.

All I want to know is if Bio Pace was spec'd for any bikes in 1990?

It's on my 1989 Raleigh Appalachian which I believe was the 1990 model so I imagine it was.

Biopace parts are not easy to get hold of these days.

Yes, definitely. My first MTB, a 1990 Marin Palisades had it. It's horrible.

Biopace, since 1988.
But on shimano, the biopace was on the bad place : try to turn the rings on the spider : small diameter when the arm is vertical, and big diameter, when the arm is horizontal (when you got max strength)

I knew it was on some 1988/1989 bikes, just was not sure it was put on any 1990 models.(as it was crap?)

Because -- unlike modern hi-tech oval rings -- biopace is a terrible, ill-conceived design that's known to trash people's knees

Edit: Sheldon Brown loved them, so I'm probably totally wrong.

Also, as front mechs don't go up and down to match, it'll be at the wrong height for optimal shifting almost 100% of the time...

the orignal biopace is very egg shaped the later biopace hp was a bit better but still needed rotating.

Having missed out on the original Biopace craze I rode my first ovalised chainringed bike last year. I find it very similar to regular round rings. The only noticable difference is when using the smallest chainring, things get a bit choppy. I like it.
