I only just noticed the sun rings! Good to see them. It doesn’t look like it hard much use at all judging by them. If I do sell the Mr Patate I’ll let you know, doubt I’ll ever put it on the bike…
The 24T inner ring seen a fair bit of action, and the 38T middle ring too. 48T looks new.
Didn't see much mountain action in the Cheshire planes I reckon. I was born in Congleton many many years ago where this bike was purchased. The bike probably got some action in the Peak district nonetheless.
Thanks for sharing all of this, especially the paper work. It's gold and was a surprise to see. West Street I know, but there was never a bike shop there as I remember in my time.
If ever you did convert this to a rigid you will struggle to buy the Sunn Cro-Mo straight blade fork (rare as hell). An alternative is a curved Spinner with a 405mm a-c is spot on, but a Kona P2 410mm a-c will work too for this. Sunn were rather advanced in ditching cantilever, 1" forks and doing their in house suspension forks. I am very fond of this brand in part because they managed to contribute massively to reverse a dire situation concerning the French bike industry just prior.
Those Crossmax look top notch with no chipping in the ceramic
