Rainy day job...put off for 30 years

Well.....they are back on! I had to swap out the headset for a really short stack, as bitd, i was using a shimano 105....dont ask! Since then its been replaced by a ritchey with a higher stack, so ive how swapped to a megga short tange......well it goes with the forks too!

No real issues getting them back in, the cups on the ritchey were a devil to get in last time, but the tange pressed in nicely.

Brakes adjusted, ready to go.

Quick test ride reminded me just how sensitive they are to brake set up. Any small vibration, from incorrect block angle or position, sets them a quivering. Quick fiddle, all ok.

Unlike unicrown curved blades, you also get to see the flex in the forks more as you completely ignore the upcoming GATE !, completely transfixed by the gentle wiggle of the hub.

Here they are back at home, only 30 years late to the party!

Very nice. I've just changed mine for a bontrager composite fork and am interested to see how they compare. The bontrager is a bit lighter i think, but that could be wishful thinking given the price I paid.

Do you have a link to the service instructions? I couldn't see them on the mombat site.

I will have to find them for you.

Weight wise they are heavier than the original tange forks, at 1049g with my mahoosive 210mm from race steer!

Well its a couple of weeks later, mark has waved his magic Cerakote wand over the parts and we are ready to put it back together.

As you can see they are quite transformed!
Have been looking back over old posts and admiring your builds & projects :)

Are you ok to share the details for the Cerakote guy? I've been keen to try this for a while (I asked for quotes in & around london and they were horrendous!)

Also, do you think it would look good on a full frame? I see they do a nickel type finish and was considering for my Team Issue project ...

Sadly he's kinda retired now. He does a few bits for friends, but thats it.

The problem is most guys have a minimum charge so one bit gets expensive. Its to cover setting up and cleaning down etc.

He did whole frames for a bike manufacturer, but if you want nickle like coating something like aeromax powder is far closer. Try contacting Adam at aeromax coatings near lowerstoft. He basically invented it!

I can let you know next time i put some bits in for cerakote but it may be some time....
