Bike snobbery - or is it?

My Ex's boys both had those, they were cheap to buy, they thrashed them to bits (well, actually nothing broke and I only had to tighten up the bushes in the rear linkages occasionally...) and they were perfectly happy with them because all they wanted was a bike to do just that - they weren't bothered what it was made from, or where, or what name it had on the frame, or how heavy it was, they were just bikes...

Then they moved on to 'peds, then cars, and one day they may pick up a copy of a mountain bike mag while they're waiting for the Missus to finish the shopping, see something they like, think about it, get back into cycling and before you know it they'll be reminiscing about bikes they never heard of BITheirD...

I think BSOs are bad too: but are there really any on Retrobike? There are alot of of low/mid range things that people like because of nostalgia, and I guess there can be snobbyness over some of those.

But apart from the odd stray "my uncle gave me this Ninja bike - what's it worth" enquiries, where's the beef?

Where are the RBBSOs?

I wouldn't want to single anyone or anything out but there are things such as steel wheels, plastic levers and pedals, side pull brakes, pressed steel drop outs, BMX BBs and such lurking in a couple of threads on this site

And much exploding occurred when these things were mentioned

When it comes to alu mtb frames, i have simple check:
If the frame has rear dropout that can be seen on some frames of different manufacturers, then the frame(brand) is not worth of my interest.

Is it snobbery?
