Bike shops in NW that you would trust with your retro ride?

I am a bit dubious about taking my retro pride and joy to have the headset replaced, where do you recommend? In Cheshire by the way.

some people slate them (mainly mail order related) but dave hinde in northwich have always done a good job with anything i've taken to them. they re-tapped a screwed BB shell for me last week on an orange x1 & have done a couple of jobs on my gringo in the past too.

Depending on where in Cheshire you are theres a place in Ellesmere Port called Cheshire oaks cycles that are a great bunch. I've had lots of work done to my two bikes there.

If Horwich near Bolton isn't to far away Green Machine recently extended the thread on a fork and fitted a headset for me. Great work by two enthusiastic guys.

North West Mountain Bikes in Cheadle. One of only two shops I would ever trust with my Pace (the other is Sett Valley Cycles in New Mills, more a roadie shop but Sam owns a Pace too)

NWMTB built my Pace originally, Andy insisted all the mechanics/shop assistants try it in the car park so they knew what a proper mountain bike was like. Which is a compliment coming from Steve Peat's former mechanic.

Praise indeed, sure NWMTB would do a great job. Course there are several indie bike builders in the Greater Manchester area that could do it *cough* :D

The young lad called Adam in Evans shop @ the velodrome gets high praise (built the wheels for the olympic team)

On the subject of Manchester bike shops, anyone been in The Bike Rooms yet? I looked through the window but didn't feel comfortable going in. Not very welcoming - looked like an exclusive sportscar shop with a door policy.

Harry Hall got any better?- always seemed to be staffed by people who would rather you didn't bother them. Maybe they have all gone to work at Edinburgh Bike Coop - visited a week or so back, stood at till with items, card in hand. Completely blanked by 4 different staff. Even if they had been run off their feet (didn't appear to be) a simple "sorry I'll be with you soon" would have secured my custom. After 5 minutes of waiting I walked out and ordered from CRC (probably got it faster too).

Bicycle Doctor were top, not been in for a few years.

Will's Wheels - near McVities is goodn branch in Marpe too.

radar seems to have had the same experience as me on a number of occaisions
Cost one shop a $4k sale, if they don't offer good friendly service I don't go back :D
