Personally, I take 'underdog' to mean the amateurs who put bikes together in the back bedroom or the shed, scrubbing down old parts or finding stuff on eBay and who maybe doesn't have the time and resources that somebody working in a Bicycle related business would have.

I dream about having a back bedroom or shed to do my builds in. I work in a space in the loft, around 3' x 5' and if I step back to admire my 'creations', I would fall through the loft hatch! Seriously.

6 pages in and not a bike I'd vote for

Theoretically speaking, doesn't that make them all underdogs Mark ?

Fluffychicken helps a considerable amount with this forum by running and updating the archives.

I know! He knows his stuff... But that gives him no reason to react like he did...

All I said was he cocked it up. the only 'personal' attack, though intended as light hearted. This is a BoTM contest and as always I use the Formal Rule of 'It is just for fun' and 'Judges rule is final' as my guiding rules, everything else in there is just banter of opinion.
I added some explanation of what I thought Underdog and BoTM contest was, adding to the banter.

None of it was shouting, just pub talk. Well edited pub talk.

As a side, I do Moderate on this forum. I moderate both Magazine & Catalogue Scans areas and the Archive.
P.S. There are more Centurion catalogues in there now as a nice member emailed me them to put up.

Luckily I don't have to/volunteer to do the true moderating in the Sales and Off Topic areas.

Let me help...

Bike that would not normally receive many, if any votes if entered in the regular bike of the month competitions. Especially if among yetis with purple bits bolted on...of the month.

What more do you need to know? enter, vote, or go do the dishes!!

I don't read it as this at all.
I see it as a month for those to enter who haven't won it before.
We've had budget/lower end months before (that's how I won mine  ) and I see this as being completely different.
I think the idea was to encourage more people to enter, and so change the fact that the same old people are consistantly in the top 3 of the voting (I'm not saying this is a problem...if you put the work in then you reap the rewards).
The Breezer could win ANY month, and I personally wouldn't have considered it for this theme, but it has as much right to be in the mix as any other.
At the end of the day, you each choose who to vote for, so what's the problem?
I hope all the bickering doesn't put people off entering though, as the thought behind this month is a good one

I was kidding ;)

Fair enough mate ;) I think the strong winds we're having may have blown my brain right out of my ear hole

Re:

That Fat Chance is impressive, especially it being Chances personal bike. Yeti or Breezer would get my vote any other month. Underdogs indeed.

I dont know why we keep moving the course tape. Let there be "special" months to mix things up and keep it interesting, but dumming down this competition to so that "everyone has a chance" is ridiculous. My $.02 anyway.

Re:

It's all about the bike apparently.

But as soon as this months factored in people who hadn't won before then that went out of the window whether we like it or not.

Not the competitions finest moment.

Think Makster's post two or three above sums it up fairly well.

On reflection maybe "underdog" wasn't the best turn of phrase, if anyone can think of better please lmk.

Otherwise BoTM business as usual. On on!
