Re:

I'm sure BoTM could be turned into a Radio 4 play :D

It's clear what John means by Underdog but at first glance I must admit to be expecting bikes from the likes of:

Univega
KHS
Parkpre
Shogun
Ridgeback
Diamond Back etc etc with the odd Saracen, Trek, Giant etc thrown in..

So the Parkpre gets my vote just ahead of the DB :D

Members who are "underdogs" (ie never won BoTM) would make up about 98% of the forum!

Re:

Am I too late to play :?:

Kermit's 97' Mongoose IBOC PRO SX

This was my very first attempt at a retrobike and I am happy how it turned out :D

How anyone could make real money buying and selling old bike parts is beyond me.

Opportunity Cost!

Just out of curiosity DT...how much $ have you invested in your collection and what would you let it go for today?....well I guess that takes the breathe out of that side of that arguement?

Not sure how this is relevant but since you ask. No Idea, it took me several years to put together my collection and I don't keep a spreadsheet. Several thousand for sure. I know everything has a price but honestly, unless I am trading up, I have no desire to let any of my core collection go. I suppose if someone offered me 20K for everything in the garage, I would start doing some quick math in my head. My personal goal is just to keep my collectors under 10 bikes, early N. Ca. based, and the best example of each one in my size I can find. I am sure you do something close to this with your GT's. There are a few bikes I am still looking for.

Those that I have sold/traded with know I rarely make a profit on what I have. I am very good at buying high and selling low. I tend to give parts away if someone needs it, and that karma usually comes back the other way. I am geeky enough in my projects that the pieces I seek really have to be precise down to wear and year. This means long waits and top dollar and ebay more often than not.
