I don't think the Ultimate has valve caps in the top pic ;)

And for the record, I'm not ragging on anyone's bike...just trying to find flaw with what I consider to be the best bikes in this month's BOTM.
My personal critique on things I see out of place or I would dock points for.

Giom6's Yates - Points off for a repaint. They're only original once. Cables need to be tucked, housing looks long. That kink in the chain tells me its a garage queen/wall hanger. Plastic ferrules. Front QR on the wrong side....which would explain why the front Dart tire is on backwards./quote]

Whatever! I like it and that's all that matters!

Just for the record, the kink had been removed, wheel is the right way round and and as I wanted to use it I went with new XTR cables hence the plastic ferrules! The repainted was done because I wanted it to be the best it could, it wasn't good the condition it was in...

If it makes any difference I'll get some new pictures up :x

5. If you aren't prepared that your bike undergo criticism as part of BoTM don't enter it. We have many 1000s of views on this thread in a month - make sure both you and your bike are ready!

Re:

BOTM for me has and always will be, which one would you most like to own, which really boils down to which one of these bikes would I like to ride and look at whenever the hell like.

Nothing else matters really IMO though I can understand why people would get down to the nitty gritty when its such a bloody hard month like this one and as nice as it is to have a good read through the builds and I do like a good build thread, its still irrelevant to whether or not the bike would get my vote as the bike is what it is with or without words.

Anyway having just sat here and typed that after getting in from a 12hr night shift I still don't know what to vote for, good luck to all I really can't remember a harder month.

Re:

There is a fantastic collection of bikes to choose from this month , well done to you all .

FWIW I go for the bike I'd most like to ride , not hang on a wall . Surely older bikes won't be completely period correct , simply because you cannot get tyres from that period you could trust not to fail when you ride it . Even nos tyres . I'm open to correction on this theory . Just thought that to be the case .

Depends on how/where they're stored...I've run across some pretty old tires that seemed just as fresh and pliable as when they were new...stored somewhere cool and dark and they'll last a while...

Thanks . Worth remembering. However , unless you've had them from new , how will you know how they've been stored when you buy them ?
Maybe I should get some new tyres today , so I can enter a bike -so to speak- in 2050  Thinking ahead !

UV light is definitely a killer...you can usually tell because the sidewalls (especially any labels/logos) will look faded. And any cracking is obviously a bad sign...and if they have a generally dry look to them...not the kind of greasy look new tires have...

Re:

The Mountain Goat which was discussed ...

I bought the bike from Eric, it had two different tires on it and a non-matching saddle and seat post too short, silver Mavic Rims ...

All parts have therefore not fit or did not fit in my eyes for the frameset, I have replaced!

It was a Deore DX brakes, DX crankset and DX pedals off the saw and still looks good, why should I change, only for it all is then XT, NO! It feels good to drive, it works and it looks good!

By the way, all components (even the Tioga Wonerdawg tires) of 1989/90 except the saddle (the Flite I drive just like to, and this Mountain Goat I drive content) which is of 1991.

There is no buildup thread BTW, because I have to always document everything and to make beautiful pictures unfortunately too little time, but I'll be happy again publish a few pictures;-)

Oh and Eric, you were right, IT IS A KILLER FRAMESET in original finish, many thanks for that;-)

Happy Easter and enjoy BOTM contest :)

Daniel
