BFE replacement...Stanton Slackline

I can't quite put my finger on why this rides so differently because it's a tad heavier than the BFe (bigger frame and heavier forks) but it feels much more lively. There are some people who find the BFe quite stodgy and harsh for a steel frame which I never understood until now. I'm genuinely surprised at the difference because on paper they're pretty similar...both steel, slack, low BB etc.

I don't think the BFe is a bad bike at all, it's a very confident bike going downhill but I think the Stanton is going to suit me better.

I did some further bedtime reading last night.
The new one is 631 main triangle, apparently same weight and strength as 853, and £100 'cheaper', which is really strange and I can't quite believe, and as you say on paper it's heavier!
I bought the Kinesis to rebuild the Genesis but knew that it couldn't replace the Bfe as it's so good on the tough stuff. It's just haunting reading that this slackline does it all as I've collected a few modern hardtail projects now! doh! :facepalm:
Will have to have a go when we're in the same district!

I wonder if it's anything to do with the Stanton having more posh tubes? Both versions have 631/853 front triangles whereas only the down tube in the BFe is 853. I'm not really up on the differences but it may count for something.

Surely you know the rule for bikes....N+1 in which case there's room for one at your house!

Just out of interest, how much air are you running in your Z1's? The manuals says up to 15psi but this makes next to no difference so I'm running about 40 which may be a bit too much with some compression wound on. Windwave said I can run higher pressures if needed on these due to the spring being on the other side.

Well, The blue classic Bfe is 631 top and seat tube and 853 down tube, rear regular cromo as soul. So very similar really, the new Bfe is cotic custom top an seat, and I didn't realise apparently 853 down.
Having another look today, apart from the obvious shorter rear triangle on Stanton, the front end is actually longer by physically being a tad longer but it also seems that the seat tube is slightly steeper making front end tad more longer too... so basically this frame has been designed for its purpose whereas the Bfe is modelled on the now classic Soul...

Damnit I'm turning into a Stanton fanboi!

As for the collection, yes the rule is all good but I will let a few unused frames and bits go before I lash again!..

Not sure on pressure but I'm fairly sure we did this on a ride as it was quite divey, and they can take more pressure so I'm fairly sure that's what we did.

That's true, was the George French teachings of BMX sizing. Perching on the seat in the case of a trail bike is a worthy consideration, the long forks really rake back the seat tube.

Managed to get out on the Stanton on Sunday round the Chase and had an absolute blast. It was so much fun...much more lively than the BFe, with much less of a harsh feeling through the bumps.

It did however remind me of his lazy bouncy bikes make you....my legs certainly knew about the ride (especially after a big day out in Wales the day before). Full sus bikes carry speed much better and it's easier to get into a rhythm when pedalling on flat bumpy stuff. However the feeling of the back end skipping about is great fun.

The forks are great although I had slightly too much air in them because they still had an inch or so of travel to give up. The 11-32 cassette with a 34 tooth chain ring is hard work too so I've ordered an 11-34 XT one today which will also help my Hope freehub body last a bit longer (the ali freehub on my Easton wheels has been chewed up big time by my a SLX cassette).

All in all a very happy boy. Going out on it again tomorrow night.

Couple of pics from the other night at Stile Cop..

Had a great time on the DH trails on it but it made me realise how noisy old style mechs are so I decided yo treat the Rune to a new cassette and chain some could use the old one on the Stanton which got a new Zee mech and shifter.

I prefer the shift action of the ashram stuff on the Rune but the Shimano clutch system is far more effective. Even on a hardtail it's silent whereas I still get sine slap on the Rune.

Only downside is that I had a monster crash last week; I was knocked out cold for six minutes and was taken to A&E.

Not too bad now but m shoulder is a bit mashed.
