BB advice for a Campag Centaur triple chainset?

Do I require either a 111mm or 115mm BB?

My frame has 28.6mm tubes (Columbus SLX) and the BB shell is Italian threaded (70mm).

So far my research points to 111mm and seeking confirmation or whether I require the wider, 115.5mm BB.

Whilst we are at it…are Tifosi BBs any good? They come up £10 cheaper than the corresponding Campag Centaur BB…However, the adage ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ does spring to mind….Anyone on here has experience (good or bad) of Tifosi BBS?

Tifosi is perfectly adequate.

Some of the campag bbs have many tiny bearings so don't last very long in wet conditions.

The 111 or 115 axle length may be dictated by how wide the stays are.

Some frames need a longer axle to avoid a triple touching the stay, at the expense of chainline.

126, 130 and 135 also affects chainline

If there's no dink for a triple, you may need to go longer.

The shorter axle is likely to be better if it fits, but you might not know until you try it.

I had a Veloce triple on my road bike with a 111mm Centaur and that was perfect. I certainly didn't need more width.

Thank you for the advice…the stays look somewhat thin…SLX tubing see attached photo.

However, I don’t know what you mean by ‘dink for a triple’? What do you mean? Pardon my ignorance on this.

is the Veloce triple any different to the Centaur 10 speed triple?

Frames expecting a triple often had a deep pressing in the chain stay to allow the inner ring closer to the centre line.
Otherwise of course adding an extra ring would move the larger 2 chainrings 5mm+ out. Not ideal if you started with a correct chainline.

The chainstays can be attached to the bb with varying spacing, it depends s on the bb lug with a lugged frame like this.

Given its a late lugged frame with narrow tubes though, I would think the shorter bb would be the best fit.

...but youight not know until you try it.

I don’t think the frame has that as it is road frame and wasn’t expecting a triple in its lifetime!

Currently I have a Shimano Tiagra road triple with an external BB and there aren’t any problems.

I can't say for sure, but I assume the chainline is the same, so the space for chainrings should be similar.
