I'd be tempted to get the whole frame chromed. :)
Can you re-chrome over the top of chrome ? I've always wanted to know that!

Any idea's nob :?:

I've had forks re-chromed but then the tubing was thick enough to get this done.

Tubing on the frame is probably a little thin though - but then remove the blue possibly?

eh????
Columbus SL is .6 mm /.9 mm forks .9
paint for this is around 50 microns....what has tubing mm got to do with the covering???

I spoke to Argos recently about redoing Cromovelato , they said it can be done but is tricky, I think the laquer had a hard time adhering to the chrome hence why so many vintage frames have areas where the laquer comes off . Might be worth giving them a ring if you're interested in a complete restoration .

Cheers

Thanks, yes I did, it's not cheap! ..I've stripped down the whole bike and cleaned everything off and I think will re build it and put it up for sale as it is.
It has pantographed cranks, stem and seat post and Campag Record group... so a pretty lovely bike as it is. It would look great with a refinish but this is all original and would seem a shame to lose that for the sake of covering a few small areas of missing lacquer?
;)

Yea i'd be tempted to leave the frame alone but just build it up real nice, make sure the groupset/wheels/bars cables/seat post etc are immaculate and treat it to some new cotton bar tape, and just polish up the frame as best as possible. Once it's built then the frame should look a lot better as will have other components to draw the eye to.

Chrome eats away the tubing after a few years so you' need to know what your doing & the thickness hence re-chroming is not easy to do.

Hi Nob, Ah yes, I thought the issue was painting, sorry for misreading your post! The chrome under the lacquer is 99% fine so no need to rechrome. Thanks for the useful info!

I've had a few parts re-plated. Technically its called plating not chroming :)

They remove the old chrome before re-plating with chrome.
