So I've got a few bikes in my "queue"... no worries, they aren't hurting anybody.. or so I thought.

A recent arrival (a 1991 Cape Wrath) showed signs of a nasty case of internal rustiness in the lower part of the seat tube, around where the bottle cage mounts are. This highlighted something I already knew but had chosen to not worry about too much, namely the fact that rust doesn't stop just because the frames are stored in a nice dry place.

Anyway, I've currently got 5 black Cape Wraths in storage, all different years with differing details and geometries, all needing a dip, strip, rust neutralising and powdercoating. All of which would cost around £70 plus £30 for stickers each if done separately.

My challenge to myself is to see if I can negotiate lower prices with the powdercoaters (they are all gloss black after all) and Gil on the stickers as they are variations on a theme.

Here are my lovelies before work commences;

1987/88 20” Cape Wrath Deore XT (531 All terrain)
1989b 22” Cape Wrath Deore II (531 All terrain)
1990a 20” Cape Wrath Deore DX (531 Magnum)
1991 20” Cape Wrath Deore DX (531 Magnum)
1994 18" Cape Wrath Deore LX (653 Magnum)

Just got back from the Powder Coaters, £210 all in... so a saving of £140 so far. :D

Noice, are they all keepers?
Oh definitely, I dream about sitting by my collection of Capes on a sunny day at a retro festival, just drinking...
The wife asked “so, what... you sit there and talk about your bikes?”
Only if I have to... was my reply :LOL:

That 87 looks great!
Cheers... some might question the need to refurb that one, especially as it had its original foil head badge, but the top tube name & down tube Claud stickers are repro and slightly wrong... so after some carefull heating from inside the head tube I managed to carefully remove the foil badge with no damage.. the Reynolds sticker is readily available and the seat tube sticker is one I drew up for H Lloyds so that’s sorted. The text stuff is easy to replicate correctly and will be part of the artwork batch I send off to Gil

Ok... Artwork sorted, just want to check the layers then these will be off to Uncle Gil...hope he's in a good mood ;)
