banger hangers

Does anyone use one of these?

And if so, do they work?

I want to use one on my trail bike (non-replacable mech hanger), to give it more protection.

Send me your address and I'll send you one to try out as my one doesn't fit on the bolt on wheel on my bike (I'm assuming it's one of those things that attaches to your wheel axle and slots into the mech hanger bolt)

Thanks for the offer. I have one, my main concern is...when fitting one, how can you tell that the small bolt you screw in the rear mech hole isn't being screwed in too far and in fact is putting too much pressure on the mech hanger?

I know it must sound daft.

I've got an On-One Hanger Banger on the Orange Gringo. They're great, not only is the mech held securley but the shifting is so light now it's amazing. Some argue that the hanger bolt should break to save the mech but I've gone down a different path with this device and a titanium bolt. Again there's an argument that if the mech hits an immovable boulder the frame could get damaged but I'd take the chance because I'm not into freeride (mainly XC) and the light shifting is worth the risk. Give one a go why not!

Sorry Pete I didn't realise you had one and you were worried about the adjustment. I did fit a new hanger to the Norco then overtightened the small bolt. I realised immediately and loosened it but felt completely C@@P as the nice man at Norco had sent the replacement hanger all the way from Canada for nowt!! Luckily the hanger did not suffer and the shifting was unaffected. I think basically you should gauge the depth of the bolt recess and try to feel the screw making contact as you tighten it home. Any movement of the hanger is obviously too far and a quick loosen is required. As said in last reply some people disagree with using them but I've seen non replaceable hanger bent by crashes and would fit one to try to prevent the damage.
