howdy.

fancied a dabble at retro full sus a while ago and chanced upon enit puceflange's old balance frame as seen here...

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... c&start=15

the day after i collected it i noticed the threads in the rear mech hanger had been stripped. turns out the brother of a retrobiker had rebuilt the bike, not liked it and stripped it. i then bought it off awkward kid who was very embarassed about the situation and promptly resolved it!

anyhoo, this has been sitting unloved in my shed for far too long. it is a really pretty frame. half polished, half purple anno.

i bought enid's fred salmon racing bar and stem combo as it was just too right for this build!

with the assistance of mikef350 we began a nodest build.

the same manitou forks have been pligged back into the front end. shimano cantis fitted and mated to some random but attractivge brake levers. grips are courtesy of a long since stripped kona. wheels are a set of cheepies from a long forgotten alpinestars. cassette has been removed and replaced with a 16 tooth sprocket. i have lost my spacers so have come up with a rather unattractive ghetto solution. tyres are cheapies donated by mike.

as you may have guessed this is going to be a budget singlespeed. unashamedly built to sell on as i have too many bikes and bits already.

currently undecided about what cranks to fit but definately going to be nice old 5 bolt jobbies.

it has been pointed out theat the hanger situation can be resolved. buying the right bits will be about £50 so i am sure someone will do this justice one day.

but for now, enjoy a couple of pics

after deciding to go single speed i left the rear end well alone to be honest.

Go On Man!!
Get torn into that rear suspension, it just needs a man with a vice and a (i think) 10mm allen key to get the offending rear shock units apart
(I still own neither of the aforementioned tools  )
Nice to see it back alive!!

It does seem a lil' daft to not have a go at fixing the rear end. Shouldnt be too hard to track down some elastomers that fit.

true but if i fix it then i'm comitted to fixing the mech hanger as i don't think it'll s.s. if the back end is moving? could be wrong. i might take it to me dad's tomorrow. he can fix everything

IF this device is spring loaded, could you use it as an alternative to a hanger mounted chain tensioner?
That would solve rear end movement / chain issues if you repaired the rear shocks?
