Attention MTB Girlies - Saddle Question...

Right, so, the GT build is entering the final 'buying shit' stage and we should be ready to put all my lovely shiney bits on the frame in the next couple of weeks - however I'm still missing a saddle and tbh I'm not sure what to buy.

My previous Kona had a big padded womans saddle and I hated it and ditched it for one of OH's old Bonty saddles which was loads better but still not ideal. My current Giant hack has a blokes saddle - can't remember the make - and its awful...! (but still prefer it to the womans one)

So, my question is what saddles do you ride in and is there a benefit to buying a more slim line womans style saddle, been looking at Bonty ones, or should I steal the NOS Selle Italia Turbo the the Oh has snaffled away that he thinks I have forgotten about? Also ant recommendations of saddles that will keep with the age and build of the frame ('94 GT Corrado)?

Ah - the vexed question of saddles for the girls! OK here goes.

Depends on the size of your pelvis - sit bones to be exact. In a saddle bigger and/or more padded is not necessarily best.

I've had various saddles on my bikes - those intended for men and some female specific ones.

Out of the female ones I have one particular Specialized Body Geometry model that's comfortable. Specialized now do different saddle widths in Women's saddles so you can choose a narrower one if that's what you need. But ofcourse this is putting something modern on which I guess you may not want to do.

Of the rest Flite stands out - I have a red Ti Flite on one retro bike and a more modern version with cut out etc on my cross bike- both of these are men's saddles and both are confortable - so maybe nick the Flite your OH has stashed away?

You have to try it really - you could always see if you could borrow a saddle ot two to try??

Thanks for that CAS, I'm trawling the net now trying to research whats available. Ideally I'll go with something retro-ish as I'm not sure I like the OTT styling of some of the modern saddles but equally I want it to be comfy..!

Have you tried the Charge 'Ladle' saddle, it's a female saddle and have the retro look, think it's around £20 price range, my sister have ridden them and said it's comfy too.

I'm not a girly but I know the problems of that perfect saddle.

Retro might look good off the bike but on the bike you will not see it only feel it !

Go for what is comfy, not for what looks right.

A bike old or new is for riding primarily, not for looking at :roll:

I know very little about you, and even less about your bottom, but when I had to find a saddle for my sister's bike, we tried loads. Eventually we ended up with an Avocet, which looked quite 90s and was lady specific. Maybe one to think about?

wife had a terrys woman saddle but now uses a standard flite ti which she says is far more comfortable....

My ex used a ladies Avocet O2, and liked it.
You could always cover a modern-ugly with a nice bit of leather.

My other half uses a Ladle, but the ordinary Spoon is rated highly by ladies. Fizik Vitesse is also rated very highly. I have a NOS WTB SSt2K leather topped top end saddle that will be comfy, but looks good, farly flat top and firm but with some padding.

I was about to say something similar.

Previously I have always had womens specific saddles - a little wider than normal. I picked up another mountain bike a month or so ago which had a flite titanium on it. I initially thought "Christ that looks painful" but decided to give it a go and isn't actually too bad - I have done 6 hours or so in one sitting on it and find it comfortable.
