I tried to get a child's BSO working yesterday which isn't funny. Changing gear at the back altered the chain line so much it threw the chain off at the front.

Any ideas what to do?

Remove the freewheel, redish the back wheel and put a BMX freewheel in instead?

Failing that, an old front mech screwed in so it holds the chain on?

The worst thing about these bikes is they make people think cycling is hard. Places like this really do their customers a disservice.

I like the front mech idea. If the lad's parents can't find a suitable chainguard, I will try it. If I go for the BMX route, the front chainring/set will have to be changed as the resulting gear will be huge.

If you click on the image of the bike, a new window opens with a "video" tab. That's where you can see the Argos bicycle assembly movie: A Mr. Chumley-Warner public information film in colour.... ;) :D

surely one of those situations where they put it at a really high price for 1 month just so they can then put it down to £70 and say well the RRP is £359.99

Yep, they did this with Lay Z Spa, had it at £999.99, and then reduced to £399.99 in order to show reduction.

Not cricket.
