Are you a Mac person OR a Pc person?

I think the main point about less viruses on Macs, is that Pc users watch more bongo... me included!

But still as many security flaws ;)

Neither; "Evil" Microsoft owns a stake in Apple , which not many people realise [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Inc.] and I am not prepared to indulge them. So my laptop confuser runs on Linux, it never crashes, it turns on straight away and the best bit is the Linux photo-software is called... Gimp!
The only thing it won't do is play D.V.D's but that's because Sony and Phillips are very keen on protecting their joint patent.

Probably Neil,
Linux even plugs and plays my Sony Walkman and old Konica digicam. D.V.D's are the one thing that have consistantly eluded me. I've tried a few different programmes but no success so far. So I'll try Videolan and report back.
Thanks for the link

Well, the clue on the VLC main page:-
"For Developers
libdvdcss"

Truth be told, I've not actually run VLC on Linux in anger, personally, but as it's platform agnostic, at it's core, and includes it's own CSS libs, I'd imagine it should work.

Your comment about DVDs just suprised me, that's all, since DVD software of various forms has been of interest for me, for some years. As I said, can't say as I've used Linux for that particular interest, but knowing a reasonably amount about the freeware used for such video processing, many of it actually comes from Linux derived code (often ported to other platforms).

I've made them play now. I haven't used VLC, I'm using it with Gnome Player, which I think may have been here all the time [As if it came bundled with it], just never activated.
Cheers,
Rich.
