Are Powerlinks compatible with Shimano 9s chains?

Hi folks,

Have a new Shimano chain, but somehow lost the special pin that joins the ends. I do have a Sram Powerlink, though. Are the two compatible?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

yes, most of my Shimano chains are equipped with SRAM Powerlinks - you just have to take care, that you have the right Powerlink available.

Martin :)

Re:

Shimano chains don't come with a quick link where as sram and kmc come with a quick link. That's why this time I've gone for kmc rather than shimano ;) .

Cheers Kyle

I always go for Sram, goodness knows where the Shimano one came from. Other than Shimano!

Re:

I'm shimano through and through but since i found out that kmc and sram came with a quick link I'll be using them for chains from now on!

You shouldn't have a problem. I generally buy sram or kmc chains now but where I have a shimano chain, I use a power link of some description, sram; kmc, clarks etc. The only one I've had an issue with it a wipperman version, bizarrely with a wipperman chain. It always seemed to be clunky around the jockey wheels. Might have been because it was fitted the wrong way round, I read somewhere that some are directional, most are universal.
