Are 10 speed cassette lock rings the sane as 9?

I ask only as I've just thrown together a bike using some new 10 speed XT bits and a used cassette. I've set up the gearing and it's fine aside from on the smallest cog at the rear which is noisy. I've played with the limit screws and no dice. To me it looks as though the chain is sitting on the lock ring which is why it's noisy/jumpy, hence the question.

It's possible. No real markings to discern whether this is the case or not. I must have another lock ring kicking about somewhere.

Well good news. I found a smaller lock ring and all is fine and dandy with the shifting and chain noise now. Maybe it was a 12t lock ring? No idea as the lock rings aren't marked but I found a couple in the cave, some the same, and one that was smaller. Cheers for the input, I suspect you are right.
