applying for a new job

When filling out the application, do address all of the criteria in the "Person specificaction". Even if you don't have any experience, state that and state that you are a quick learner, adapt to change easily, and welcome oppertunities for training.

I once got to the final 4 for running the electoral office for Brighton and Hove by doing just that, even though i had no office experience. The guy interviewing told me that he had lots of people in the building that could do the job, but didn't make as good a job of filling out the form, as i had

Know the company, and ask questions about them and their plans, it makes you seem interested. Ask about pay, conditions, promotion possibilities, and do ask if it is a two stage selection process, and when they will let you know about moving on to the next stage (some companies use second, and third, interviews! :( ). This is a positive thinking thing.

Look good, be on time, use the glass of water trick. Don't fold your arms, it looks agressive, and also looks as if you are bored. Make good eye contact as soon as you enter, and give a good handshake. Phone off

At the close, ask when you will hear from them, and tell them you are looking forward to that.

You'll be fine...

Dave

Thanks for the input chaps.

It was just a generic Total Jobs website application form which in turn would be resent to a local Job Agency.

I'm not holding out much hope, I applied for 63 jobs when I knew I was to be made redundant and only got one reply.

Thats why I'm so sceptical and cynical in my , er, damn, young to middle age.

Hi -

Two things:

* Make sure your application form is perfect. Put all the dates in and don't leave any gaps. We ditch gappy applications straight away. Shows bad attention to detail, poor form for a Service Desk analyst.
* I wouldn't worry too much about past IT experience.
* I can give you plenty of help if you get an interview.

I started out in IT doing 1st line support for an interweb provider, was a Service Desk analyst for a while, and now I'm in Service Management. Fire me a PM if you want.

.

Really!

Don't worry, there are plenty of people on here who who are always shouting about how easy it is to get a job. I am sure they will be full of good advice. (well I am sure they are full of something!)

Interviews were always my biggest 'thing'.. the job, no problem.. do that with my eyes shut (to coin a phrase) but the interview... noooooooo..

Usually did ok though.. twas a self-confidence issue (and lack of interview experience - in 19 years of employment I only every had 3 or 4 interviews).

i had my 1st ever proper interview in august for college,i did shit in my opinion but the feedback i got was positive and helpful.i wasnt qualified enough and they ended up offering me my own position a month or so later.mainly due to my previous, but limited experience and positive enthusiasm.

good luck with all of it buddy and get as m,uch feedback as you can,it will help further down the line. :D

see you in the greener field ;)
