Anyone want to display there ride at the cycle show (NEC)

Re:

Retrobikes ridiculed ? Id bet good money that if you counted the number of people visiting a F40 car show display compared to its latest Maranello equivalent, the former would win easily.

Minifreak has it all covered apart from my fav brand :xmas-wink:

You can show as many Robert's Klien's Yeti's etc as you want these all will have price tags the same as a new bike.
The purpose of the display is that you can get into cycling for very little money which is the point themountie is trying to get across. The reasons he has asked for stories behind the bikes is to show the general public that you can pick up a cheap bike and for very little money you can be on the road.
I think it would be nice to show bikes that for under a hundred pounds are better than the cheapest BSO bought new. I'm not saying don't show the good stuff as everyone like's abit of eye candy, but something you got for next to nothing replaced the cables and you'er away is the name of the game.

Re:

This is a trade show, so IMO you should avoid any links to purchasing, or cycling on a budget. We're not manufacturer's and we're not a professional body. Leave that to the rest of the show.

Stick with a simple theme of cycling heritage and history, the development of technology and racing / hobby preferences. And let's be honest, you need marquee bikes to draw in the most interest.

May I suggest you speak with those who have organised similar events and gatherings in and outside the UK. They'll have all sorts of recommendations I'm sure eg Toxic Harold's annual event, the folks in Marin, the Klein meet up, etc etc.

Obviously I'd be happy to show the rarer beasts in my collection: the Caldera and Explosif.

Oh contra the purpose of the stand is exactly that, a way and a means to get into cycling on a budget which the organiser is wanting to promote this is the MOST important part to get more people cycling. Forum members can engage with the public and answer questions like "what to look for when buying a secondhand bike", "where they can be found" etc.

Surely if you want cycling on a budget then Retro is the wrong place to come

Ebays awash with 10year old bikes going cheap not old enough to be collectable and too old for the hipsters and these have brakes that work, suspension that moves more than 30-50mm and parts readily available

No different to cars, kids don't want MG's or MK1 escorts they want cars that work far better and less prone to failing even if it is a 106
