It's definately more about the rider than the bike.

retro DH bikes just don't cut the mustard vs modern dh bikes though unfortunately.

Agree.

Yes. Why not? Better than any modern

Happy 20k posts. Too bad it had to be nonsense.

I don't post here much because of statements like these. I'm not intending to this to be the final word on this argument that's been beaten to a a thousand deaths on this forum, but anyone who truly feels this way is kidding themselves or not making the bike go fast enough to notice the difference.

Vintage bikes are fun to ride. Like singlespeeds (I can only assume), poor brakes, bad tires, suspect shifting adds an element to my rides that I don't find on my modern bikes. This is the reason I ride my vintage bikes... because they underperform.

Agreed (except the gears bit if using thumbies). I like messing with reto bikes but prefer riding my modern ones.

Modern XC hardtails are too high at the front!!! What sus fork can you buy new with less than 100mm travel these days? Only one I can think of is the RS SID.

Fox, Marzocchi, Manitou, Magura, x-fusion, DT all do 80mm travel forks. :)

You just answered your own question?

You may prefer a lower longer setup likely achieved with some stem and bar adjustments. But that doesn't mean that setup is better.
