Running and the tightening of the ITB seem almost to go hand in hand.
I'm sure your physio will have shown you a few stretches which will make a huge difference. A good regime of ITB stretching can mean the key factor in being able to keep running. The fact that it's a big bit of connective tissue means it influences so much of the rest of your legs and lower back.
