Don't know for sure, but I would guess it was the base model, there was no LX group in 1989, and the Stumpjumper being the flagship model, they wouldn't have dropped to an Exage build kit.
There might have been a Suntour equipped model too. I think the steel S-Works bikes had M900 XTR derailleurs with Suntour XC-Pro thumbshifters...which didn't work very well.
