Hi all
Took the plunge last week on a new cannondale beast of the East that is now a 27.5 plus bike
So it's running 2.8 to 3 inch tyres on 50mm wide rims
Any other fat boys on here if so what is your reasoning
Mine was it's b.o.t.e!!!
I built my 29+ in 2013 and then my 5" fatbike last winter. Once I'd ridden 3" tyres, I was convinced of the benefits of big rubber - huge grip, benefits of low pressure tyres and the ability to ride over anything. Fatbike is a different beast, but means you can ride the stuff regular bikes can't, so opens up a whole different range of opportunities - I'm off to Finland on Thursday to do a race in the arctic! :xmas-big-grin:
The big tyres certainly help to stop you sinking too-deep and maintain enough momentum over short patches, but for water logged bridleways and byways that have seen a lot of horse and 4x4 traffic then it's still tough going - but better than anything else. I've just ridden the Rovaniemi 150 in the arctic in 39hrs to find that 5" tyres aren't much use in 6" of fresh snow either...
I love the cold months now, My cobbled up Fatty rumbles and roars over frozen bogs and snow-covered tussocks, high hilltops I couldn't easily ride in the warmer months.
Also cherish my '90's bikes too.........
Great looking Fatties guys
Hi Frazer, Looked like an awesome time in Finland. Followed the updates as well as the facebook stuff.
We did meet last year at Forth Fat. Your machine is lovely for sure.
For me I have had my Pugsley for a good few years now with a recent repaint freshening it up. I also have my 1X1 running semi Fat.
Both always singlespeed.
Jamie
