I'm using 32:22 and that's probably how it'll stay. For the very little road work that I do I don't need any higher gearing than that, so I might as well have the range at the bottom end instead. 32:20 would have been ok too, which would mean that 5th (1:1) would have been the same as the singlespeed gearing that I use. I don't mind a bit of spininess

Well, with 32:tooth chainring and 18T sprocket you'll have the equivalent of from 32:34 (1st) to 32:9 (11th), or pretty much the same as 42:12 with a triple crankset.

I wouldn't think you'd ever need to gear any higher than that (well, I wouldn't) but going to, say, a 20T sprocket and going lower might be an option.

I was out for a three hour ride with a mate of mine today and at times I must admit that I thought "why am I dragging all this extra weight around?" as 95% of the time I was in 5th gear (ie 1:1).......

Old habits die hard, I suppose :roll: .
