another Welsh mission, anyone fancy meeting up?

Re:

Where are you riding today (Monday)?
I had forgotten I've got a 2 day intensive Welsh class on tues/weds this week, but it's in Dolgellau so I'll be taking the bike and going for a ride at CyB after it finishes (4pm).

Rich

I'm off this week and was planning on riding CYB on Wednesday.

Was planning to ride MBR into the Beast.

Not sure how fit or fast you are, but happy to keep bimble round if you want some company.

Jonny - sent you a PM with my number on it. I could be at Penmachno by about 11 if you fancy some company.

Sam - should be free by 4pm on weds. Happy to do mbr/beast if it's not too late in the day for you. Done it quite a few times so shouldn't keep you waiting around too long.

Re:

 at Afan!! That's completely ruined that climb. It's completely bald, just like Friday night ;)
The Raven is pretty good isn't it. I think I still prefer the Gorlech, as it seems to flow better.
You should've thrown in a trip to Cwm Rhaeadr while in that area mate.
Enjoy the rest of your trip

Hi Rich, would bad good to meet up but that's a bit late for me what with my drive back. I'll drop you a PM next time I'm heading over your way to see if you're free.

Re:

No problem Sam - to be honest after 7 hours of Welsh classes I think my reactions might be a bit sluggish.

Jonny - rolled up at Penmachno at 1145 and set off about midday thinking you must have left. I got back to the car at 2 to see a white van with your name on the back. Shame we missed one another - you had a good day for it though it's a pity the best downhill section was out of bounds. I asked everyone I saw whether they were Jonny. Must have looked a right fool.

See what I mean about the gratuitous rocks?

Re:

so, today's mission was initially to find Penmachno! turns out i drove right past the car park, mainly because that is all there is!

once there i asked 2 girls for trail advice as they were the only people there, turns out they weren't local either but they said i could join them as it turned out we were headed for the same trails. Katie and Chrissy, some one here should recognise those names! calling NeilM!! yep! Katie is Neil's daughter! it only came out because she mentioned (unprompted i might add) that she was the proud owner of an Orange C16R! :D

off we went, Katie put my old legs to shame and was up the first climb and gone out of sight! i stuck to my pace as if i didn't i would have been in a right state trying to keep up! basically after a couple of miles we settled into a nice rhythm of climbing, stopping, re-grouping, descending, stopping, re-grouping etc, this seemed to work really well, catching a breath before each section, but those climbs and constant rocks, usually there is a natural relief as you change from pedalling up to hammering down at a trail centre, here i would say it's hard most of the time, the climbs are long, steep and sometimes rocky, but so are the downhills which are the type of downhills that you need to people on to maintain your speed, as a result there is no break in the amount of effort you put in! hard work!

by the time we were coming to the end of the ride i think we'd had enough, just beaten up by the rocks! damn good day though and lots of good banter! when i got back to the van i found a note on the front window from Wynne saying we'd missed eachother, maybe tomorrow?

here's a couple of pics :D
