another orange P7 question thread. (finish/parts)

Old School Hero
hello all.
I got my orange P7 the other day and i like it too much to sell it on.
Im planning on building it up semi retro, with cantis, eno hubs/mavic rims, king and other stuff.

The frame is in pretty good condition for how old it is....3 years younger then me. it has one small dent in the top tube, but im not that worried and appears to have a lacquer on it. the lacquer is stuffed in some places. so my first question is, is there a way to remove this lacquer and if there is how do i do it and not wreck the nickel plate?

2nd point is the frame came with the original seat post (and forks/stem....heck yesss). the seatpost is missing the rail clamp bit:(.
does anyone know where i can source a replacement? or do people think i could/should/will have to fabricate my own?

Thanks in advance, Asher.

alright photos, yes bad light, but it really highlights the problems with the finish.

no idea on the seatpost, laquer may come off with nitromoors, it shouldn't damage the plating (as it err plating) but test for sure... Though someone here must have tried it by now.

Or call it Patina like the rest of us and ignore it ;)

What about using acetone i.e. nail varnish remover? Test a small area first tho'.....

dman mum and her non acetone polish remover. the finish came off a bit, but i dont think it had anything to do with the remover.

thanks for the suggestion, i will get some with acetone.

It might be called Propanone, you may find it in paint thinners as well. (real paint thinners)
Only thing with pure propanone is it evaporates quite quickly so you'll want to use it as a dip, or you'll just smear it around the frame.

I would try the paint strippers first if you have any lying around as they are thicker and will make the job easier.

that someone would be me - I can confirm that nitromors removed the lacquer on my '95 (whereas isopropyl alcohol, meths, acetone etc had no effect).

(disclaimer - try it somewhere inconspicuous to start with, though! -- and it will lift the decals if you aren't careful)
