It's no secret that I like On Ones so I jumped at the chance to save this 18" 456 frame from the tip. It looks like the rear mech has been pushed into the spokes at some time resulting in a bent drive side dropout. It has been straightened but the 'jaws' are now too wide to hold the QR tightly enough.
I checked that the BB threads were sound by fitting some out board bearings --- no problems there, whilst a visual check showed no other problems apart from the odd scratch.
There are no frame builders locally so a short tour of the local engineering firms came up with a local guy who apologised for not being able to fix it whilst I waited.:)
I've left the frame together with a 10mm axle and hope to collect them sometime after 7 tomorrow.
The plan is to give the frame a quick wash and brush up before transferring everything over from my 16" 456 which is too small for me really.

I collected the frame today just in time as many firms are closed for the month of August. The first thing was to check that the wheel sat in the frame true, ___ all good so the frame swap can move on.
Nothing rusts here but old habits die hard so the inside was treated to a good squirt of WD40 and the outside given a coat of car polish.
I'm rubbish with computers so the pictures are all in the wrong order but I'm shure you can work it out, there's some pictures of the donner bike here too.

Many thanks, the doaner bike was a 69er too, the bigger front wheel seem to take care of holes and rubble better, I don't care about the rear wheel size though. The only downside is a bigger turning circle with the 29" front wheel.
Went for a shakedown ride yesterday with only a front brake fitted, what could possibly go wrong?
I stopped to flip the stem and rotate the bars a couple of times but the only problem was a repeatedly slipping carbon seat pin, (since replaced with an alu post).
I investigated a new to me trail with lots of soft sand which slowed me down somewhat but then I came across the first water I've seen this year! Amazing, I think it has rained for only three days in 15 months, who'd be a farmer?
Altogether I was out for almost three hours including a bar coffee stop. I didn't take many pictures as I was pi55ed having to keep refitting the slipping seat pin.
