So some of you may have seen arseface’s (whom I shall call AF here on in ) superb post about his 2003 Kona Stuff jump bike… well I just finished mine!!
I bought the bike new back in 2003 same as AF and we actually used to go riding together. On his post you can see this very bike in it’s old ‘freeride’ guise with Hope M4 200mm brakes front and rear. Clearly an 100mm hardtail needed the braking power as used by Steve Peat at the time
Anyway fast forward many years and more modern bikes I never got rid of this frame as it was my first decent bike. Perusing jump bikes to use on the local skatepark and pump track it dawned on me she deserved some time in the sun again!
So here is the frame, ready to be built after the most torturous attempts at removing the 19 year old BB
First up is the headset and BB. For all my 1 1/8” hardcore bikes I only use FSA Pig headsets
Bottom bracket is an old XT external one to suit a set of SLX cranks. Used to run these on my trail bike until I went fully Sram.
This will be a quick build over the course of the day ….
