Annoying clicking, but what is it?

Yup, has driven me a little bit mad. Pushing from both sides does indeed make it click. No bolt on hangers unless you count disc brake mounts. Front qt is a maxle, rear is a bit crappy so could be a candidate.

Riv nut has been oiled, will try again another day and see if it still clicks.

Does it sound plausible as the cause or just a coincidence?

Re:

Rear QR axle I bet...I have had this on a few bikes where I could have sworn that the click/creak was the BB. Take the rear wheel out and grease all the contact point on the QR skewer and also the axle/drop out area. This still happens on my current bike and I have to re-apply the grease every few months or so to stop the creak...

...try it and see what happens

Do you own a personal music player with headphones ?.

This will solve the problem
I do, but I like to hear things coming so tend not to ride with headphones in or an i(ignorance) pod.

Re:

Totally agree. I was knocked off my bike into a car by someone wearing headphones. Didn't even bother to take them off as he carried on his way mumbling sorry.

That's scary  although i've not that happen but i have had a few close calls over the years when i've been coming off the main road in my car into the side street and and some one just walks into the path of my car with head phones and either just stops and stares at me or just carries on although tbh i have seen alot of people just stepping into the main road not far from where i live and i mean it gets really busy with lots of trucks and buses and it's not that long ago really since the was one woman who was hit by a small transit van and was taken to hospital and after a couple of months i saw her again crossing the same section of road with her head and wearing head phones and just sauntering very slowly across the road ➡️ ..

summary - clicks when wheels are fitted and you push down on one side of the BB?

is that where you're at?
